Kawal Tiger Reserve is a renowned wildlife destination located in Nirmal district of Telangana, near the banks of the Godavari River and its tributaries. Spread across dense teak forests, grasslands, and riverine ecosystems, Kawal was earlier known as Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary and was later declared a tiger reserve to protect the endangered Royal Bengal Tiger. The reserve lies approximately 260 km from Hyderabad and is well-connected via road through Nirmal and Adilabad. Kawal Tiger Reserve is home to diverse flora and fauna, including leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, deer species, and rich birdlife, making it a popular destination for eco-tourism, wildlife safaris, nature photography, and biodiversity research in northern Telangana.
